Tomasi Auto was founded in 1997 by Giancarlo Tomasi and is still a family business. The strategic entrepreneurial vision of the second Tomasi generation led the Lombardy firm to become the largest independent multi-brand dealership in Italy.
Tomasi Auto, which has always been attentive to digital technology as a strategic business tool, turned to Moze to renew its website, with the aim of introducing innovative elements to the online car selection and purchasing experience.
Initial Workshop
We started the project with a Co-design Workshop, a preparatory exercise to the design and technology development process.
During the workshop, we gathered ideas and input from the Tomasi Auto team. We then designed the wireframes of the main sections of the new website and researched the best technological solution to implement it.

Thanks to the work undertaken in this exploratory phase, we established the design foundations for the new website, determining a reliable estimate of the effort and timeframe for its implementation.
Technological solution
The project presented us with a major technological challenge: the integration of various third-party systems with the web application we were to develop. The Tomasi Auto website, in fact, needs to communicate with a number of the company’s management and information systems to retrieve and transmit information.
For this reason, we sought a modern and highly flexible technology stack capable of fulfilling the project’s customisation requirements.
We chose Sanity, an innovative headless system, as our content management engine. A headless CMS (Content Management System) exposes raw data via API web services, and is therefore particularly suitable for the development of highly customised web software.

We chose Next.js for the development of the front-end. It is a JavaScript-based React framework, through which the software interface components can be assembled.
Finally, we chose Node.js for back-end development and MongoDB as the database. These highly flexible systems assured us considerable freedom in implementing functions that matched our design requirements.
We loaded the various software components onto Cloud platforms that ensure advanced scalability and require less server-side maintenance effort.
User Interface Design
We designed the new website’s user interface focusing on creating customised user experiences based on user preferences:
- The free browsing of the vehicle stock through facet filters (dynamic multiple filters).
- Guided browsing through editorial-style categories (such as “Low-consumption Vehicles”).
- The browsing of all vehicles with a mode reminiscent of the iOS phonebook metaphor (a feature promoted by the Tomasi Auto team during the Co-design Workshop).

Launch and feedback
Tomasi Auto’s new website was launched in April 2022, presenting itself as an example of UX at the forefront of the online automotive industry.
Right after we launched the website, we evaluated the impact of our work by conducting a qualitative research study. Feedback from the brand’s long-standing customers and new site visitors immediately rewarded our work.

«Automotive is going through a significant transformation. For Tomasi Auto, a company engaged in research and innovation, this means new opportunities for improvement and growth. With the help of the Moze team, we started a journey to create a very flexible technology platform to face the challenges of tomorrow as protagonists.»
